10 Bestselling Posters of our time

'What are you're best selling posters ever? is a question we often get asked. We never really feel that we give a satisfactory answer to this as we usually just say something a bit vague like, 'Eh....dunno really.....Scarface or something probably'. Therefore, during a quiet moment the other day we had a proper think about it and tried to come up with an answer this question once and for all. We have come up with a top ten list which we reckon reflects what indeed the best selling posters have been over the 7 year period we've been flogging them. So, in no particular order :

Scarface - Movie Poster
Le Chat Noir - Giant Poster
Rio De Janeiro - Giant Poster
Akira - Movie Poster
Amelie - Japanese Movie Poster
Pink Floyd - Back Catalogue - Giant Poster
Breakfast at Tiffany's - Movie Poster
Godfather (il padrino) - Italian Movie Poster
Apocalypse Now - Movie Poster
The Warriors - Italian Movie Poster

There are a couple of surprises in there, we think you'll agree. The Warriors is probably the major shock, but we have sold reams of these posters which is a testament to the film cult status of the film. Pink Floyd Back Catalogue is another surprise inclusion. We can never really work out why its so popular, are people buying it because it is a clever, striking image featuring all the Floyd Album Covers?, or because it features a bunch of naked women sitting by a swimming pool?, probably a bit of both. All the Amelie Movie Posters have sold well since its release in 2001, but the Japanese version is the most popular. Apocalypse Now, Scarface, Breakfast at Tiffany's and The Godafther are all quite obvious inclusions, as they are all classic movies with iconic main characters. Le Chat Noir and Rio De Janeiro have both been consistently good sellers.

Some exclusions which just miss out on the top ten would be the student classic Che Guevara, Muhammad Ali, the New York Skyscraper Lunch poster and the World Map. So, is there anything we've missed or are we pretty much spot on?

TV Rules - Firstposter.com Top 10 TV Shows

Yes its another Top 10 list! How interesting. Anyway, TV is an essential strand of the fabric of life here at firstposter towers. Infact, if it wasn't for TV we probably wouldn't even talk to each other. Anyway, here's our top 10 shows in no particular order (apart from The Shield being Number One).


1. The Shield - Amazing how its managed to be so consistently excellent over 6 seasons. Tight scripting and a great cast make it the show we blab on about most of all. Vic Mackey and his strike team are the model which we base our workplace upon (aside from the drug dealing, murdering, corruption, money laundering etc.)

2. Battlestar Galactica - Whod've thought that this show would be so Frakkin' good? after the Dirk Benedict led late 70s farce (which you knew was guff even though you were only 7). Sure, it has some dodgy episodes and irritating characters but the general story arc is so strong that these can be forgiven. Also, the acting from Edward James Olmos (Admiral Adama), Mary McDonnell (President Roslin) and our favourite James Callas (Gaius Baltar) is superb.

3. South Park - Now in its 11th (!) Season, South Park is still providing us with some much needed hilarity. Eric Cartman remains one of the all time classic cartoon characters and the show keeps getting better. The latest episode 'Imaginationland' is the best in ages. Oh, and the film was great as well.

4. The Wire - A slow burner, The Wire is a thoughtful contrast to The Shield. Complex storylines told from all angles and an excellent cast make this a show not to be ignored.

5. The X-Files - The first three seasons were excellent. After the movie, it all seemed a bit pointless, although there are rumours that the story may not be over yet ..........

6. Seinfeld - Again a consistently great show, which alot of people in the UK knew very little about, mainly due to the fact it was shunted until 1120 on a thursday night on BBC2. So many classic moments and chracters.

7. Curb Your Enthusiasm - Of course written by Larry David, this is a very different show to his other creation Seinfeld. Documentary style, with no laughter track this show follows the trials and tribulations of 'Larry David' as he goes about his daily life. Now in its sixth season.

8. The Office - The most quoted show in the shop environment. At times, working here is a bit like Wernam Hogg, a lifeless space surrounded by paper (joke).

9. The Simpsons - What can you say? Its The Simpsons y'know.

10. Family Guy - The Griffin Family and their various neighbours have always gone down well here.

Very Honourable mentions :- Prison Break, Entourage, Peep Show, Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe, Brasseye, Im Alan Partridge, Armando Ianucci, Vic and Bob, Mighty Boosh, Larry Sanders Show etc etc, we've probably missed loads?! ............

Here we are going to attempt to keep you up to date with all the happenings in the fast moving world of posters. Were not making any bones about it, we sell the things from our website (along with an entire phalanx of other stuff) at www.firstposter.com. If you're actually interested you can find out about us here. On the blog however, were going to try and keep things slightly interesting by giving our incredibly insightful and witty opinions on everything and anything that we see fit, from Movies and Music to general world events. Every other Tom, Dick and Harriet is doing it, so why the chuff can't we?

In addition to all this blantant free publicity excitement, we are also going to try and give an impression of what its actually like to work in a crazy urban environment like Glasgow City Centre. To say the least, there are some interesting characters and happenings around here. We will always have a tale to tell.
